So I know some people aren't sure if they should own a dog. Let me tell you it is a lot of work. It will also be the best thing you can possibly do.
My example for this story will be my dog that recently passed away, Molly. I got Molly when I was a Sophmore in High School. We all remember that time in our life as when we aren't sure who we are and it can be a really rough time. I remember coming home feeling just horrible and like nothing is going to get better in life. However, when I got home to Molly her wagging tail and whining for me to pick her up. Molly brought instant happiness. She was always doing something so great and so comforting that I couldn't be sad any longer. Molly really was a healer.
Now people say that dogs have the ability to make people live longer and be happier. I have proof of just this. My Grandpa was going through an illness that would eventually take his life. The illness was Lukemia. It wasn't fun for him at all and left him with many countless nights unable to sleep or just uncomfortable up to painful. Molly understood he wasn't feeling well and she would watch over him. When I say she would watch over him I really mean it. Molly would lay on or near my Grandpa without being told and would comfort him to the point he could sleep. She helped ease his pain and make him comfortable enough that he was able to get some much needed rest. Molly watched over him till he passed away.
Now my Grandpa had passed away and my Grandma being married to a wonderful man was feeling the pain. Once again Molly was there to help her through the pain. Molly became her constant companion and her best friend. Molly would bark at my Grandma to get her up and moving through the day. They enjoyed eachothers company and fought through the pain of loss together.
Molly blessed me and my family in a lot of different little ways. I'm very grateful to have her apart of my life and I look forward to pulling tug-a-war with her in heaven cause I know she is there hanging out with my Grandpa.
So if you are on the fence of having a dog I will tell you right now the answer should be yes. They aren't just a dog that you have to take care of but it's a family member who will always be by your side.
